Natalie September 9, 2013

WOW. I can't tell you how much your packages meant! I still cant get over how every single detail was so perfectly packed and every time i took one more thing out of the package i was amazed! Thank you for being so thoughtful and for remembering me on my birthday. I felt you all so close and could feel of your love and prayers. Thank you thank you thank you.
I had an incredible and happy week full of miracles and testimony builders. My birthday was a birthday that I will never forget and felt so blessed to be able to spend it here in Melun. Soeur Grewar is the greatest companion in the world and planned little surprise rendez-vous all day with my favorite members and amis. I was fed well!! haha Our DMP owns a bakery and gave us one of every patisserie! yikes. they were unbelievable. His kids sang to me and made my day so special.I felt you there with us. We had pasta at a members home for lunch and for dinner we had turkey and potatoes and more patessiries! I have never been fed so well out here. It was amazing: This week has been a blast; We had some really fun experiences I want to share with you:

Earlier this week we met with one of our less active families we've been working with. Their husband and dad passed away recently and they are still grieving him. The son should be going on a mission but wasnt really interested in it. The mom didn't have a super solid testimony and since I've been here we've been trying to lift them up. Last week we taught about prophets because Elder Oaks is coming for the conference next week! She told us she didn't believe in them and only liked the ones from the book of mormon. We testified of Joseph Smith and gave her the engagement to read D&C 121 from when he was in Liberty jail. Soeur Grewar and I studied all week to find things we could teach her. This week we went back and before we even started teaching she said, I've been thinking about what you told me! And you were right! We need modern day prophets now more than ever and I believe in them! We looked at each other and tried not to freak out. It was so cool! Then she told us that her son went on a trip with the young adults and he now has decided to serve a mission!!! We freaked out with that one and didn't even try to hide our excitement! they are on fire and its so cool to see how far they've come already since we've been here. I am so excited for them!

We also found a few new amis this week and have been working on teaching the restoration! It has been a miracle to find new people and I'm excited to see if they'll progress. We found a woman who is really excited to learn more. Her husband talked with the sisters before and told her that he wanted their kids baptized in our church. We met with her for the first time this week and she wants to come to Elder Oaks this next week. She has the cutest little son ever and I put my tag on his shirt. We all laughed then he said "when i'm older i'll wear my own" the room got quiet and the spirit was so strong! there were tears in all of our eyes. " out of the mouths of babes' he was incredible.

This week I have learned so much about Characters of Christ and I have seen them come alive in members and amis and in my companion. This week I was studying about them and read a scripture in Mosiah.

14 And these are they who have published peace, who have brought good tidings of good, who have published salvation; and said unto Zion: Thy God reigneth!

15 And O how beautiful upon the mountains were their feet!

16 And again, how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those that are still publishing peace!

I love these verses! As I read them, I glanced down at my feet...and they sure didn't look very beautiful to me. Take a look for yourselves...

I read them again and this time I looked down then I looked down at my companion's feet who has one more week of her mission, who has served these past 18 months and has given every single thing she had, and they looked a little different. Through each calus, tanline and blister, each held their own story. I started to remember miracles found at doors we walked forever to knock, or running to catch a train to get to our next rendez-vous on time, a smiles given from a woman who we let sit as our feet stood. Climbing up flights and flights of stairs of apartment buildings, walking extra steps four hours searching for one less active who didnt accept us. Walking up hills and small french alleys, through pouring rain and mud puddles, and rocky cobblestone; I see faces and smiles and peace published. They look beautiful because of the message they bring and the Author who wrote it. He is the "founder of peace who has redeemed His people" And each night as I walk up our 4 flights of stairs and sit down, I can almost hear Him and feel Him, "pouring water into a basin and washing my feet and wiping them clean again" Through His cleansing power of the Atonement, each day we are cleaned again is we use the gift that He's given us. Just as Peter, at times  I don't feel worthy of this act of service that the Savior performs for us daily. But I'm reminded of His words He said to Peter, "if I then, your Lord and Master have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you, if ye know these things; happy are yet if ye do them. This is His invitation to us and our commisison to serve others and to wash the feet of our brothers and sisters too. Christ washed the Apostle's feet because He loved them.

"Having loved His own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end" John 13:1. Just as He loved His apostles and loved ones, I know that He'll love us till the end and as He washes our feet daily; we in turn can learn this character of Christ and turn outward.

"There would have been no Atonement except for the character of Christ" Elder Maxwell

I know that Christ is the peace that we publish as missionaries and as Latter Day Saints and O how beautiful our feet look as we walk in His light!

I love you all so much and I'm so grateful for you and your love. I felt so close to you this week on my birthday and felt as if you were with me. I know that God lives and loves you! And oh how grateful I am for the blessing of my family. You're in my heart and mind always.

Have a beautiful week and know that I love you!

Love,
Your Nat Girl
